Picture Gallery: Foodie delights welcome passengers at new Kansai Airport T1 airside departures zone

JAPAN. When Kansai Airports opened its new-look Terminal 1 airside departures zone on 5 December, most attention focused on the expansive  2,500sq m KIX Duty Free walk-through store.

But beyond that impressive shopping attraction, T1 also offers a further specialist, destination and luxury retail zone – including Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Chaumet, Gucci, Hermès, Bvlgari, Hermès and Tasaki boutiques – complemented by a diverse food & beverage offer (including the first airport Café Dior by Anne-Sophie Pic and eight other options).

Today we bring you details of the F&B offer. ✈

The KIX website offers a brilliantly simple and extensive guide to its F&B offer by outlet type and location. And once passengers get to the airport, there is plenty to satisfy all tastes.
This week’s opening of the new airside departures zone saw several new F&B concepts introduced. In the photos below we showcase a selection.
There are just 20 seats in this bar-style set-up and almost every one was occupied every time we stopped by. Note the baskets considerately placed by each stool so guests can place their belongings there.
The ‘farm to bowl’ food is cooked right in front of the diners, offering an engaging and theatrical experience. Also note how the F&B is nicely integrated with the retail offer.

Cafe & Bar Wa-Sakura offers all-day options from a croque monsieur and coffee in the morning through to lunch fare such as beef curry or Neapolitan-style pizza. In the evening, passengers can relax pre-flight with a beer or wine.

Onigiri Burger offers a mouth-filling fusion of Japanese and American culinary culture
A four-course meal in one: Onigiri Burger is a Japanese hamburger made with nori (crispy seaweed) and rice instead of buns. The menu has been created by the owner of Sushi Kizuna, a popular sushi restaurant in Kyobashi, Osaka.
‘È pronto’ is an everyday Italian phrase used at home to mean that you’re ready to do something, or that a meal is ready. This café offers a casual, comfortable place for people coming and going within the surrounding retail space or en route to their gates.

It’s not just about airside development at T1. On 1 December Kansai also opened a quartet of landside outlets landside – Le Pan Kobe Kitano, Colosseo, Sushi Nishiya and Genki Syoten. Click on the image to expand the image.
