USA. Pittsburgh International Airport is to welcome local brand Mineo’s Pizza House to its airside food court next spring.
The Italian restaurant chain, which operates three Pittsburgh venues, is the latest brand to be announced for the airport’s revamped concessions programme which will be extended with the opening of a new terminal in late 2025.
Mineo’s menu will include an extensive choice of freshly made pizzas as well as hoagies, salads and appetisers.
The brand’s credentials include being named on The New York Times list of ‘15 of our Readers’ Favorite Pizza Places Around the World’ earlier this year.
Mineo’s, which will open in the food court next to Marathon Diner, was founded in 1958 by John Mineo, with a restaurant on Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill. Two more locations have since been added in the city’s suburbs, including Mt. Lebanon in the South Hills and Allison Park in the North Hills.
Mineo’s Pizza House Owner Giovanni Mineo said: “We are very excited to open our newest restaurant in Pittsburgh International Airport. It’s an exciting time for the region with the new terminal opening next year, and we are proud to be a part of it.
“We are looking forward to introducing our award-winning pizza to the millions of first-time visitors to Pittsburgh. We are also excited that travellers visiting former Pittsburgh residents can now bring them a little slice of home.”
Pittsburgh International Airport Director of Commercial Program Development John Brennan commented: “Pittsburgh International Airport’s new terminal is for Pittsburgh by Pittsburghers.
“Sense of place is important, and nothing reinforces that idea more than the airport adding one of Pittsburgh’s most beloved and iconic brands to our concession offerings.
“The Mineo’s space is designed to be unique. It will be as much a draw as their food and will be a popular place to wait for a departing flight.”
Several other local Pittsburgh businesses are opening retail locations in the new terminal, including coffee and tea house Café Conmigo and Champion City Sports.
They will be joined by national brands such as Shake Shack, Jimmy John’s, Sambazon Acai, breakfast restaurant Bad Egg, Stack + Press Delicatessen, Mexican restaurant Mi Casa Cantina and Camden Food Market.
