CHINA. Plaza Premium Group (PPG) has completed its strategic expansion project at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport with the opening of a third Plaza Premium Lounge on 14 July.
The lounge, integrated with a Jon Ramen restaurant, is located landside in the domestic departures hall.
The opening follows the launch of the group’s first Plaza Premium Lounge and Jon Ramen at Pier E, Domestic Departures (airside) in November 2023, and a second location at Pier H, International Departures (airside) this April.
PPG said the trio of openings marks a significant push into Southwestern China, reinforcing the company’s strategic presence in the country.

Notably, it represents PPG’s first collaboration with a renowned restaurant chain in the region and the company’s first international departures lounge in Mainland China.
PPG Regional General Manager – North Asia Jenny Zhang commented: “The Chinese travel market is a dominant force in the world, and we are proud to be able to expand on our lounge, dining and concierge services for travellers in the dynamic southwestern region.
“We not only want to cover all aspects of the needs of travellers at the airport, but to use our presence as an opportunity to promote the location’s culture, cuisine and traditions in line with our ‘Proudly Local’ initiative.”
The new landside lounge spans 185sq m, offering capacity for 35 guests. It features comfortable seating, a work environment, flight information display screens and charging facilities.
A multi-functional meeting room for up to 22 people caters to business travellers’ needs.

In a departure from traditional buffet offerings, PPG has partnered with Jon Ramen to provide freshly prepared Japanese ramen and rice bowl set meals.
The menu also incorporates local Sichuan and Chongqing flavours, offering dishes such as Tonkotsu Ramen and Unagi Donburi.

Cultural initiatives are a key focus for PPG at Chongqing. These include the ‘Art & Lounge’ project launched in November 2023, showcasing works from Sichuan Fine Art Institute students; and the ‘Culture & Lounge’ programme initiated this month, which promotes sustainable development and ESG culture.
The group also plans to introduce comprehensive concierge services, including paid transit services, baggage handling, fast-track security and customised travel assistance. A buggy car service is set to launch soon to further enhance the passenger experience.
This expansion in Chongqing is part of PPG’s broader global network, which now spans over 1,600 touchpoints across more than 80 international airports in 30 countries and regions worldwide. ✈
