UK. Polaroid is celebrating its 75th year with the launch of its 2012 fashion sunglass range comprising three collections at the TFWA World Exhibition (Stand number: Golden Village GO15).
“With our 2012 Sunglass Collection we have created a range that works for every generation, every environment – it’s the global village of sunglasses and perfect for the travel retail environment,” said Polaroid Eyewear Global Travel Retail Manager Rebecca Harwood Lincoln.
“With our new Core Collection we’ve stayed true to our original brand values of providing consumers with a great choice of top quality sunglasses at affordable prices.
“Our Premium Collection caters for those looking for something just that bit more distinctive, and this year we’ve created a Trend Collection of bold statement frames and an original new Aviator frame called Seventy-five,” she added.
CORE COLLECTION
This collection offers a choice of metal and acetate frames for men and women. From classic Aviators to wide fashion frames with oversized rounded lenses, temple arms range from subtle drain-pipes and wafer thin cut-outs to chunky decorative fashion or deep-set functional styles.
2012 sees the return of strong colours for men’s frames with gun metal, black, smokey blue and brown dominating, many of which are teamed with gradient-coloured lenses.
For women the natural-toned colour palette now includes darker hues – from burgundy, black and plum frames teamed with lilac and grey lenses to Italian-inspired dark brown frames with smokey grey lenses. Pink, ivory or petrol blue frames add a dash of brightness to the collection.
PREMIUM COLLECTION
Men’s designs in the Premium Collection range from double-bridge aviators and single masks to simple black wayfarer-style frames. A subtle colour palette of black, gun metal and brown frames, together with silver or gold metallics, are matched with copper and grey lenses. Photochromic lenses are available on selected premium frames.
Jewelled tones for women are teamed with delicate metal arms and dark lenses, while frames encrusted with semi-precious gemstones come with gradient-coloured lenses. Frame colours range from rose, ivory and demi-tortoiseshell to combinations of jewelled pink and red or jet black and pink.
TREND COLLECTION
Polaroid’s Trend Collection is defined by street style and urban chic. It includes “rapper-style” dark-coloured acetate frames – some with metal detailing on the frame top – teamed with gradient lenses, as well as big mirrored lenses in tear-drop style metal frames in silver combined with blue, red or black.
Metallics dominate this colour palette, with turquoise, plum and rust red frames adding a splash of colour to the overall collection.
“For 2012 we wanted to create something that would reflect the evolution of the Polaroid brand over the last 75 years but be absolutely right for the demands of the 21st century too,” continued Harwood Lincoln.
“And I believe we have achieved that with our best sunglass collection ever. It celebrates our design creativity, our rich heritage and our technical expertise, all brought together in a collection that offers a fantastic opportunity for our travel retail partners to capitalise on 75 years of Polaroid’s success as well.”
