GERMANY. Porsche Design Group has struck a long-term agreement with a Dubai property company to provide design services in construction projects undertaken by Dubai Properties throughout the Middle East.

The deal – announced at the start of TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes – is expected to raise the profile of the German company in the region.

In separate retail news, Porsche Design’s presence in South America is on course to grow with a 12sq m shop-in-shop scheduled to open early in 2007 in Buenos Aires Airport operated by Interbaires.

In the latest product news, Porsche Design presented a wide range of new products in Cannes.

Watches

The Flat Six line is named after the six-cylinder boxer engine, which can still be found in the Porsche 911. Included in the collection are the Flat Six P´6340 Automatic Chronograph, the Flat Six P´6320 Quartz Chronograph and the Flat Six P´6310 Automatic; all have a 44.5mm case. They join the three existing Porsche Design timepiece collections: Indicator, Dashboard and Heritage.

Reading glasses/pen set

The P´8801 Reading Tool is described as slim, lightweight and highly robust, with anti-reflective Rodenstock lenses and an anti-scratch surface coating. The P´8801 is available in the following dioptre strengths: +1.00, +1.50, +2.00, +2.50.

The P´3140 Shake Pen, just under 11cm long, is said to feature “innovative shake-and-write technology” – shake the pen to use – and is designed not to roll when placed on a sloping or smooth surface. The tip and end piece are made from chrome-plated metal, the grip from natural rubber.

Luggage and leather

The P’2117 Roadster Brief Bag M has a large main compartment with shoulder straps, three zipped interior compartments and additional partitions, one of which is also zipped. There is also a partition (expandable by 7.5cm) with an integrated secret compartment and another bag designed for computer equipment, as well as an attachable zip-around closure with organiser and additional zipped compartments on the front.

Suitable for use as hand luggage, it is made of Teflon-coated combat nylon, with aluminium handle attachments and aluminium protection for the wheels. Weight: 3.7kg, capacity: 37 litres, dimensions: 45x36x23cm.

Made of hard-wearing nylon, Porsche Design say a specially integrated spring suspension and sturdy telescopic grip makes the P´2124 Roadster Briefcase M easy to steer in trolley mode. Weight: 5.1kg, capacity: 44 litres, dimensions: 44x37x27cm.

The leather Briefcase M contains two large pockets, each 6cm deep, subdivided into a large and a small zipper compartment, plus two smaller pockets for business cards, mobile phone, calculator or writing utensils. Another zipper pocket is found on the back. Available colours: black, dark brown, orange, brand orange, red, green. Dimensions: 43x30cm.

The Porsche Design property deal

The first joint project involves two buildings located in the Dubai Business Bay and envisages an 80-metre tall, cylindrically-shaped residential building. In addition to apartments, underground parking and a spa area, the development will also house shops. The second complex, a futuristic glass cube of 20 storeys, will be located next door and will accommodate offices.

While the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) will be responsible for the design of both buildings, the Porsche Design Studio will play a consulting role for the outdoor architecture. In addition, the Studio will be in charge of designing public areas such as the lobby, restaurants and passenger lifts.

Upon residents´ request, apartments may be equipped with furniture, lighting and kitchens by Porsche Design. Both buildings are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009.

Roland Heiler, Managing Director of the Porsche Design Studio commented: “˜We are delighted to be able to work on this project with internationally acclaimed partners like Dubai Properties and [Dutch architect] Rem Koolhaas. What is more, the new buildings provide an ideal platform from which we can further expand the presence of our brand in this important region.”
