PAPUA NEW GUINEA. The National Airports Corporation (NAC) of Papua New Guinea has released five commercial tenders for space at Port Moresby Airport, as the country’s main international hub embarks on a development programme aimed at improving its service offer.
The airport said it hopes the project will result in “an ideal strategy that increases [retail] revenue and density, at the same time improving the service offer rendered to the travelling passengers.”
The five tender packages cover 16 retail spaces and include a duty free package comprising a 332sq m Departures walk-through store on the first floor of the terminal and a 89.69sq m Arrivals store on the ground floor.

Two food & beverage packages are being tendered, one offering three spaces including a 103sq m Papua New Guinea Coffee Hub – reflecting the country’s strong coffee heritage – and the other for just one 140.71sq m bar concept in the Departures area.
A retail & convenience concession comprises six outlets – including a “˜street market’ style store for local products, another arts & crafts shop and a convenience store – while foreign exchange and car rental concessions offer two outlets and six booths respectively.
The duty free concession will run for five years, with all others operating under two-year contracts. The airport is aiming for new concessions to start trading from May 2015.
Proposals are due by 17:00 (local time) on 8 August. A pre-proposal workshop will be held on 28 July.
