The one-month Chinese New Year promotion aims to tap into the vital Chinese travelling consumer spend |
QATAR. Qatar Duty Free is marking Chinese New Year 2012 with a major Chinese-themed promotion for the month of January at Doha International Airport. Chinese consumers are becoming increasingly important to Qatar Duty Free sales: parent company Qatar Airways flies to five destinations across China – Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Chongqing – with 35 flights each week.
To complement the Chinese New Year celebrations, the promotional area at the Departures terminal has been decorated with oriental designs offering an array of popular Chinese products across various categories including fragrances, cosmetics, skincare, luxury watches, gifts and souvenirs.
Chinese New Year is the most significant date on the Chinese calendar, celebrated not only in China, but across Asia Pacific from Japan to Malaysia. 2012 is the year of the dragon, signifying good fortune and prosperity.
“The sales figures are spectacular” says Qatar Duty Free of the promotion’s performance to date |
Qatar Duty Free Senior Vice-President Keith Hunter said: “The traditional red colour, which signifies good fortune and joy, has been used to design the promotional area and every customer making a purchase is given the legendary “red envelope” with a small thank you offer as a token of our appreciation. The sales figures are spectacular and we are glad that our Chinese customers are appreciating our efforts in [adding] something unique like this, especially for them.
“A big thank you to all our partners: Chunghwa, Godiva, Kraft, Davidoff Cigarettes, William Grant & Sons and Rémy Martin, just to name a few, who have shown their faith and usual support to make this project a huge success.
“With the Chinese New year just a few days away we have equipped ourselves to welcome the world’s fastest growing duty free spenders and will continue our efforts in making their shopping experience at Qatar Duty Free enriching and memorable.”
