Rado Original ChronographSWITZERLAND. Swiss watch manufacturer Rado’s Original Classic and Original Chronograph watches have been presented with an international red dot product design award for 2006.
The watches received the accolade for outstanding design quality from the Design Centre Nordrhein-Westfalen, thanks to their high degree of innovation, their design and product quality, functionality and durability, the company said.
The design of the new Original collection is based on the Rado DiaStar, Rado’s 1962 model unique in its time for its scratch-resistant metal and oval shape. The new design features a bigger crown, a crown protection element along the case and a bigger bracelet. The Original collection targets enthusiasts of the current neo-vintage trend, who appreciate cult design icons.
Colours such as red, blue, silver, orange, lime green and white with luminous indexes and matching hands dominate the oval-shaped watch case. The screw-down steel case back is embellished with Rado’s stamped “sea horse” medallion.
About the red dot award
Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen has been marking exceptional international product design with its red dot award since 1955. Manufacturers and designers of a wide variety of industrial products can enter their work every year for the coveted award. The competition is divided into three sections – product design, communication design and concept design. The 2006 red dot design award jury selected the winners out of 2068 entries from 41 countries. Criteria for selecting the winners are the degree of innovation, the product functionality, the quality and ergonomics, the product’s durability as well as its symbolic and emotional content.
