RUSSIA. Aero Region, a sister company to Dufry-led RegStaer Group, has won an open tender for the right to operate duty free and duty paid stores on arrival and departure at the new Platov International Airport near Rostov-on-Don in the south of Russia.
Platov International Airport is a major infrastructure project in Rostov Province’s Aksaysky district, 4km north of Grushevskaya Station. Its opening is slated for December 2017 when it will replace the existing Rostov-on-Don Airport.
The public-private partnership is playing an integral role in the 2010-2020 programme to develop Russia’s transportation system. That programme is seen as key to the Russian Federation’s successful hosting of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which the new airport will help serve.

The tender was conducted by Airports of Regions* – the powerful Russian airport holding company which operates Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport, Samara Kurumoch International Airport, Nizhny Novgorod International Airport, and the existing Rostov-on-Don International Airport, plus the new Platov International Airport and Saratov airports.
As part of its ambitious plans to develop regional gateways that handle international traffic, the company built Platov International – the first greenfield airport in Russia’s post-Soviet history. The 50,000sq m passenger terminal has a capacity for 1,791 passengers per hour, and up to 5 million passengers per year initially. In the longer term, its capacity will increase to 12 million.

RegStaer will operate the following outlets:
- A duty free store in the international flights departure area;
- A duty free store in the international flights arrival area;
- A duty paid store in the domestic flights departure area.
RegStaer welcomed the Platov International Airport tender results. The company told The Moodie Davitt Report that it is committed to “dynamically developing and opening new and modern stores for travellers that comply with the strictest requirements of retail business. We also will offer customers the world’s best products and brands.”
