NETHERLANDS. Further renovated retail outlets have opened in recent days at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol as part of an upgrade of Lounge 1.
As reported last week, among them is a new flagship for consumer technology travel retailer Capi, whose airside outlet offers electronics, travel accessories, personal care items and other gadgets.
Other redeveloped stores include We love Amsterdam, Finefoods and Let’s Play from retail partner World of Delights. These shops represent updated versions of existing concepts in Lounges 2 and 3.
Lounge 1 has been expanded with new walkways and upgraded commercial areas.
Schiphol Group said it is “striving to reuse as much material as possible” in the project as it targets being a fully waste-free airport by 2030.
The airport company said: “At the heart of the new design are travellers and sustainability. The lounge is being divided into three areas, each with its own look and feel thanks to the use of shape, colour and materials. This will allow travellers to orient themselves easily, and the travel experience will be more comfortable and carefree. Lounge 1 will remain accessible to travellers at all times throughout the redevelopment as the works are, whenever possible, taking place at night.”
An extension of the Food Court is among the next steps, with more seating and views of the apron being delivered. The All Day Café is under construction on the site of the former het Paleis. ✈
