Revamped Schiphol Plaza opens with a weekend of consumer celebrations – 19/11/07

THE NETHERLANDS. The renovated Schiphol Plaza Shopping Centre at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was officially opened this weekend by Arthur van Dijk, the alderman for economic affairs for the municipality of Haarlemmermeer.

With the unveiling of a plaque, the local dignitary gave the starting signal for celebrations themed ‘TOPweekend’.

“Schiphol is not the only, but definitely the biggest economic power for the municipality,” Van Dijk said. “Both nationally as well as internationally, Haarlemmermeer is seen as a top notch location. To stay at the top, sustainable innovation is crucial. Both for Schiphol and for surrounding companies. The new Schiphol Plaza is an example of that.”

The “˜TOPweekend’ at Schiphol Plaza featured a host of activities including music, dance, product demonstrations, workshops, wine-tasting and book signings. Visitors could join a DJ workshop at the Capi store, win a scooter from the AKO bookshop and be challenged to have their aura read opposite Expo.

Starbucks (its second Schiphol outlet) and Planes@Plaza both opened their doors at Schiphol Plaza over the weekend. Planes@Plaza is a new aviation shop where model planes are for sale as well as toys, souvenirs and textiles. The special design of the shop includes the real body of a KLM aircraft as well as a wing and an aircraft motor.

In the past year, Schiphol Plaza has extended its choice of shops and restaurant facilities with shops such as BLOEM!, AH to go, HEMA, Paolo Salotto en Kappé Toys, Nike, Crocs, Libris book shop, Liquors of the World, America Today, Wonder Woman and Capi Photo Service.
