German chocolate specialist Ritter Sport has introduced new-look packaging for its exclusive travel retail edition as it looks to increase brand visibility in the channel.
Ritter Sport said its refreshed, paper-based packs underline the brand’s sustainability mindset and its commitment to travel retail. The new look is supported by a ‘Taste chocolate in full colour’ advertising campaign.
Ritter Sport Marketing Manager Travel Retail Nicole Miltenberger commented: “We felt it was time the travel retail edition range really stood out with its own packaging concept.
“The new exclusive design celebrates Ritter Sport’s hero products. The propeller logo design aims to be more colourful, more impactful and more exclusive. We wanted to translate the emotion of travel and wanderlust into a new colour-coded design and packaging concept that encapsulates the sustainability that Ritter Sport stands for.”
Ritter Sport said it is working to create a holistic brand experience for travellers. The company said the shift from plastic to paper, and rougher cardboard packaging, offers a more natural look and will bring the brand’s sustainability efforts to the attention of global travellers.
Colour codes relate to flavour varieties while the inclusion of the world map on the brand logo highlights the exclusivity of the travel retail range.
Ritter Sport pointed out that sustainability has been a key component of the brand’s philosophy for the last 30 years. The company underlined its aim to increase awareness of its sustainability purpose by “doing the right thing to create really good chocolate”.
A QR code is included on all packaging, offering travellers the opportunity to learn about Ritter Sport’s sustainability engagement via a quick scan. Core topics are 100% certified sustainable cocoa supply chain (including the new Rainforest Alliance logo), as well certified packaging material FSC, climate neutral company and a lot more.
By 2025, the brand aims to complete its updated packaging journey from plastic to paper. Its efforts include the use of fully recyclable plastic foil wraps and pouches for its range of chocolate bars, individual choco cubes and minis.
“The company’s goal is to use Ritter Sport packaging made from renewable raw materials that are in harmony with man and nature and can be recycled as a valuable material,” the brand owner said.
