USA. Roam Fitness is set to open its second airport gym and shower facility at Philadelphia International Airport Terminal F in Winter 2023. The company has been operating a similar space at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport since 2017.
The new 1,500sq ft facility will feature of state-of-the-art cardio equipment, free weights, an infrared sauna, private shower rooms with towel service, stretching space and Malin+Goetz products. It will also host on-demand fitness classes with yoga mats and props available.
Roam was founded by Cynthia Sandall and Ty Manegold, frequent travellers who said they were inspired to create a space that allows passengers to use their airport downtime to maintain their health and wellness.
Manegold said: “Philly’s large presence in the Mid-Atlantic and New England markets and its being a hub for American Airlines make it a great location for our second wellness centre, allowing us to expand the value of our health club offering to the community at large.
“With an increase in total square footage, our larger facility will showcase an expansion in variety and total number of exercise stations, including the latest and greatest in technology-integrated feedback and connected coaching platforms that have become the vanguard of any workout experience.”
He added: “My personal favourite addition to the Roam Fitness experience will be Roam PHL’s single-occupant infrared sauna — a welcomed feature for both the frequent flyer and the long-haul international traveller.”
The gym can be accessed with a US$25 day pass or annual membership. Lululemon technical athletic apparel and Brooks running shoes are free to use by guests.
There is also a retail element for travellers who prefer to purchase new gear, with Roam offering a selection of Lululemon, Girlfriend Collective and Rhone apparel.
For those who want to exercise in their own gear, Roam vacuum-seals sweaty clothes so that odours don’t permeate carry-on items.
Travellers can reserve the infrared sauna or private shower rooms when they check in at the front desk to ensure they make it to their gates on time (annual members can reserve a shower or sauna 24 hours in advance).
Flight information display boards are also located in the facility so travellers can keep an eye on any changes that may occur.
MarketPlace PHL Vice President and General Manager Mel Hannah said: “PHL is honoured to be a part of the expansion journey with Roam Fitness. This offering for passengers will revitalise the travel experience for those who want to keep up with their fitness goals.”
