UK. Passenger traffic at London Gatwick Airport slipped marginally (-0.8%) in June to 3.04 million, a result of capacity reductions in the North Atlantic and Irish markets.
Encouragingly traffic on long-haul routes rose by +6.2%, driven by growth to the Middle East and North Africa, though North Atlantic traffic fell by -13.2% year-on-year. Traffic on Irish routes fell by -14.9%; domestic traffic grew by +2.4%.
Gatwick’s biggest markets, European scheduled and European charter, remained static against the prior year as Gatwick entered its peak summer period. Air transport movements declined by -2.1% in June as the full year impact of capacity consolidations continues, the airport noted.
In the rolling 12-month period to June 2010 passenger traffic hit 31.7 million, down by -2.6% on the previous corresponding period.
