Role model tender issued as Schiphol Plaza offers high-profile ‘branded burger’ concept – 26/03/07

NETHERLANDS. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is offering one of the most important opportunities in airport food & beverage for tender – a “˜branded burger’ concept at Schiphol Plaza in Amsterdam.

Currently Burger King operates the location. “This outlet is one of the best performing Burger Kings in the world,” a Schiphol spokesperson told The Moodie Report.

Schiphol Group said it is seeking an “internationally and locally known branded burger concept” for the landside location. The current operation at Schiphol Plaza expires on 30 April 2008.

The Schiphol Plaza outlet is sited in a desirable central location. The size of the kitchen and counter is 285sq m. Two seating areas (69.6sq m and 186.5sq m) are part of the concept.

The stated objectives of the tender are commendable given the ongoing “˜Trinity’ debate about serving the travelling consumer better as well as ensuring a decent return to the airport

All agreements (both concession and rental) will have an initial term of five years. The successful concessionaire will pay a monthly fixed (or minimum) rent on or before the first day of every month.

Proposers should offer a concession fee (percentage) of gross sales. It is permitted to offer a “˜step’ percentage wherein the concession fee increases after certain designated sales levels are reached.

In order to be selected proposers must have at least five years of continuous experience in operating a branded burger concept. The outlet has to be open 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, including all public holidays.

Well-expressed tender

The stated objectives of the tender are commendable given the ongoing “˜Trinity’ debate about serving the travelling consumer better as well as ensuring a decent return to the airport.

Schiphol Group said that the goals and objectives of the concessions programme at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol reflect a commitment to achieve a balance among the following aspects:

Finance: Competitively priced goods and a reasonable financial return to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and a reasonable return on investment to the selected concessionaire

Quality: A quality level that meets and exceeds customer expectations and matches the high quality aspirations of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

Image: The commercial offer at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol needs to be a showcase of the latest in products, service and design within its category and contribute to both the concessionaire’s and Schiphol’s Brand Value.

Interested parties should contact Ellen Blom or Freek Vermeulen at blom_e@schiphol.nl or vermeulen@schiphol.nl , citing “˜The Moodie Report’.

Submissions are due by 10.00am on 23 April. The winner will be announced on 15 May.
