Passengers using Sydney Airport can now head to Rossini for an authentic Italian experience, savouring classic Italian cuisine from owner Carlo La Rosa’s hometown in Sicily |
Owner Carlo La Rosa first introduced Sydneysiders to his unique Italian fare over 30 years ago when he opened a restaurant in Sydney’s iconic Circular Quay. Since then Rossini has established itself as the ‘place to go’ for an authentic Italian experience, Sydney Airport said.
La Rosa’s dream was to run a successful restaurant incorporating classic Italian cuisine from his hometown in Sicily.
He explained: “Perhaps it’s my Sicilian heritage, but I believe life is best mixed with great food, drinks and company. Rossini has been in my family for many years and we are all dedicated and passionate about creating authentic Sicilian-style Italian cuisine.
“I’m so thrilled to be extending my family to Sydney Airport at such an exciting time in its development. Life is about passion and Italian food is about bringing people together. Our vision is to offer travellers an authentic and classic Italian food experience using fresh Australian seasonal produce.”
La Rosa added: “Rossini Gastronomia will offer a range of Italian dishes infused with my heritage. I am proud to say that on the menu you will find dishes that my own Mum used to make for me as a boy.
“Rossini Gelateria will offer customers delicious gelato made using fresh Australian fruit in a recipe we have perfected over many generations. We have an exciting range of flavours to tempt even the fussiest of palates including Queensland Mango – just the thing to revive a weary traveller.
“Our gelato is made on the premises, using fresh Australian fruits such as berries, passion fruit, and many more. The gelato comes straight from the machine, straight to your mouth. No artificial flavours – just all natural, Australian and Italian products,” he said.
Sydney Airport Corporation Limited General Manager, Retail Derek Larsen commented: “Rossini joins an excellent range of local, award-winning restaurants, cafes and bars in the new-look International Terminal.
“Our aim is to provide customers with a unique airport experience offering exciting and diverse dining choices, including local favourites such as the new Bambini Wine Bar, opening in late September and the Dank Street Depot. There will be something for every taste and budget.
“The redevelopment and expansion of T1 has been a massive investment in Sydney Airport. Over the next two decades passenger numbers through the airport are forecast to more than double to 78.9 million a year.
“We are headed into the final stretch of Sydney’s International Terminal redevelopment. It has been an enormous investment and on completion, mid-2010, Sydneysiders, national and international customers will have the pleasure of visiting an airport that is focused on creating a seamless and enjoyable customer experience,” Larsen said.
