Royal Agio Cigars leaps into Turkish market – 09/07/08

Panter Coffee is joined by the new Panter Vanilla Wooden Tip cigars, on display at the 2008 TFWA Asia Pacific exhibition

NETHERLANDS. Royal Agio Cigars rolled out its new Panter Vanilla Wooden Tip cigars to the Asian market at the TFWA Asia Pacific show in May, following the success of its Panter Vanilla and Panter Coffee flavoured cigars.

The Dutch supplier is seeing a trend towards flavoured cigars, Export Manager Hans Rijfkogel told The Moodie Report during the Singapore exhibition. The Panter brand is the top seller in Asia in terms of number of sticks, he added.

In January 2008, the company opened a new factory in Belgium to centralise production of its machine-made cigars. The new facility follows the opening of a Singapore office two years ago, where Rijfkogel is based.

Following the success of its Balmoral Corona tubes, the firm displayed its new Balmoral tubes for small panatellas.

Royal Agio Cigars is now looking to the huge potential of the Turkish market. “Turkey is a growth area for Agio Cigars because the government passed a law in March allowing imports of tobacco products,” said Rijfkogel. “The market is opening up in the duty free zones, which will be big for us.”

He added that Turkish border stores and tourist areas would be targeted.
