UK. Packaging solutions supplier Sachet Systems has introduced a new range of Alco-Sachets to travel retail and duty free.
The sachets, described as an eco-friendly way to deliver a measured shot of alcohol to consumers, feature a perforated assisted opening into a practical pouring spout to reduce spillages.
Marketed as a lighter and safer alternative to miniature bottles, the product saves storage and wastage space onboard. When empty, a sachet will take up approximately 2% of the space of a miniature bottle, creating cost savings where storage, waste disposal and fuel consumption are concerns.
The sachets are popular with transport caterers, listed on UK train services and airlines such as TAP – Air Portugal, Malev and Air Portugalia.
The company is promoting the sachets, contained in branded hexagonal and rectangular packaging, to travellers, especially those travelling to events such as sports matches.
Simon Claxton, Operations Director of Sachet Systems, said: “We see ourselves as selling a packaging concept with alcohol in it. You can use it at any event, be it rugby, football, cricket, camping or picnics. The packagings are also good for gifts. The sachets take up less space than a traditional bottle of spirit. They will fit into a briefcase. They are novel, fun and different.”
And to his potential – and security-conscious – American buyers, Claxton proposes that the sachets are safer than bottles.
The Alco-Sachets recently won the Innovations in the Airline Industry Mercury Award (Category 3) at the Inflight Catering Association (IFCA) 2005 trade fair held in Copenhagen, Denmark, between 9 and 11 March 2005.
The sachets feature brands such as Louis Royer Cognac, Greenall’s Gin, Whyte & Mackay whisky, Whyte & Mackay 12yo whisky, Isle of Jura Single Malt and Glayva whisky liqueur.
