BRAZIL. The eyes of the world turn to São Paulo today for the opening game in the FIFA World Cup between host country Brazil and Croatia.
Amidst the controversy of incomplete stadiums and protests about the event’s cost, Guarulhos Airport’s private manager GRU Airport has quietly and professionally pushed Brazilian air travel into the 21st century with the 192,000sq m Terminal 3.

Welcome to São Paulo: Dufry’s expansive Arrivals store at Guarulhos T3 |
T3 offers 88 commercial spaces (see list below), from Dufry’s large walkthrough duty free stores and GRU Avenue luxury boutique zone (the first in a Brazilian airport) through to a roll call of leading national and international food & beverage brands.
Not all tenancies are open, and permanent fittings will not be in place for all brands until September.
Yet T3 already provides a commercial environment far in advance of what was possible in the airport’s aging terminals 1 and 2, with the GRU Avenue stores opening a new chapter in Brazilian airport retailing.

Industry players at last week’s ASUTIL congress in Mexico City praised the T3 environment, with one Brazilian delegate describing the experience of T3 as “like you’re not in a Brazilian airport”.
Tenants have completed the fitouts – in Dufry’s case, amounting to some 7,500sq m – in three months as the terminal was being completed.
Dufry teams have been working round the clock to prepare the stores at Guarulhos – a pattern repeated at Brasilia International, where Dufry opened its duty paid megastore last week with temporary fittings and gondolas.

Crucially for the beleaguered Brazilian authorities, the country’s international hub has its new terminal on time (a soft opening went to schedule on 11 May) and within budget.
President Dilma Rousseff and São Paulo State Governor Geraldo Alckmin officially opened the terminal on 20 May.
T3 will handle international flights from eight airlines during the World Cup period, with all international flights (from 25 airlines) scheduled to be out of T3 by September.
