CHINA. Shanghai’s two airports, Pudong International and Hongqiao International, collectively posted all-time passenger traffic and aircraft movement highs on 11 August, according to Shanghai Airport (Group) Co, which operates both gateways.
On that day the two airports served a record 397,000 passengers – 254,000 at Pudong and 143,000 at Hongqiao Airport. Pudong saw 1,597 flight movements and Hongqiao 789, a total all-time high of 2,386.
Both airports have witnessed a sustained surge in passenger traffic and aircraft movements since the summer travel season began.
From 1 July to 11 August, passenger traffic across the two gateways rose +18.2% year-on-year to 15.34 million (Pudong 9.74 million and Hongqiao 5.6 million). Flight movements increased +10.1% to 96,000 flights (Pudong 65,000, Hongqiao 31,000).
A series of animations featuring China Young – Shanghai Airport Authority’s cultural brand – is running through the peak summer months to promote the two airports’ cultural, retail and other passenger services.
