GUYANA. Fast-growing regional travel retailer Simextra Duty Free opened its latest duty-free store at Eugene F. Correia International Airport on Saturday (17 August) – its seventh shop. The airport is six kilometres east of Guyana’s capital, Georgetown
Simextra Duty Free, part of Simextra Group*, has been operating since 2013 when it opened a ferry border store on the crossing between Suriname and Guyana. It manages a portfolio of border, airport and diplomatic duty-free stores in Suriname and Guyana.
Simextra Group Chief Financial Officer Weenu Mahabir-Soekhoe told The Moodie Davitt Report: “Our company aims to do more than just sell high-quality products in the travel retail sector; it strives to create memorable experiences for travellers.
“By making the shops a pleasant part of customers’ journeys, the company seeks to contribute to the broader tourism industry.”
Mahabir-Soekhoe noted the company’s rise from a start-up to a multiple location travel retailer in little more than a decade. She praised the vision and subsequent contribution of CEO Awien Soekhoe and COO Manish Soekhoe in identifying and seizing the market opportunity.
