SK-II launches two new anti-ageing product lines exclusively with Nuance-Watson at Changi Airport

SINGAPORE. SK-II, in partnership with Nuance-Watson (Singapore), last week unveiled the latest additions to its anti-ageing boutique Skin Signature Series at the retailer’s Perfumes & Cosmetics stores in Changi Airport.

Nuance-Watson is the first in the world to launch the two new products – Skin Signature Eye Cream and Wrinkle Specialist.

These anti-ageing innovations are backed by extensive research on the skin ageing process that spans over a decade, hailed as an industry first. They join the SK-II Skin Signature family of products, which claims to help women age successfully “by taking ten years off their face”.

“We are confident that the two new additions to the boutique will give women a renewed sense of optimism to age successfully,” says Procter & Gamble Asia ASEAN & Asia Development Markets Vice President Samuel Kim

To celebrate the launch, over 80 guests comprising SK-II’s retail partners, celebrities, media (including The Moodie Report from the travel retail channel) and loyal SKI-II users came together in an exclusive event at Changi Airport’s Terminal 3 on 29 June.

At the heart of the T3 launch is a special “˜An Eye on the Decade’ photography showcase, which celebrates the heritage of empowerment that has been the core of SK-II’s miracle of transformation.

The exhibition features ten accomplished Singaporean women from diverse fields, including supermodel Sheila Sim; accomplished marketer Tracy Phillips; fashion designer Ee-Lyn Tang; actress/model Lum May Yee; model/entrepreneur Serena Adsit; former Miss Singapore Universe Jessica Tan; jewellery designer Yilin Choo; and young entrepreneurs Viola Tan, Gillian Tan and Natasha Liok.

Photographed by renowned international photographer, Wing Shya, each portrait focuses on the subject’s “captivating” eyes and is accompanied by details on what gives them the power to embrace their future.

The launch event also featured a beauty roundtable session that brought together two of the biggest names in Singapore; an SK-II Global Skin Specialist with over 16 years of experience in beauty and grooming; as well as an iridology and naturopath expert.

Supermodel Sheila Sim and model/actress Lum May Yee kicked off the session, revealing their aspirations for overall well-being, as well as their concerns for wrinkles and ageing signs around the eye area.

Providing a broader perspective was leading iridologist and naturopath, Ketki Vinayachandra, who shared how the different patterns and structures of the eyes’ irises can reveal one’s state of health.

SK-II Global Skin Specialist Tanacin Meswad (“˜Kum Aum’) addressed Miss Sim’s and Miss Lum’s skin concerns, shedding insights on ageing around the eye area and how SK-II’s Skin Signature Eye Cream can deliver firmer, more radiant and smoother skin around the eye. Kun Aum also discussed the efficacy of the new Wrinkle Specialist in reducing the future appearance of wrinkles.

“For more than 30 years now, SK-II has been at the forefront of skin science research to bring many innovative breakthroughs that have shaped the anti-ageing industry,” said Procter & Gamble Asia ASEAN & Asia Development Markets Vice President Samuel Kim.

“The Skin Signature Series has brought to life the power of SK-II’s miracle transformation to skin, empowering women with the confidence to embrace their skin’s future beauty. We are confident that the two new additions to the boutique will give women a renewed sense of optimism to age successfully,” Kim added.

This world premiere is the latest of many “˜firsts’ that the 31-year-old prestige skincare brand has rolled out in collaboration with Nuance-Watson (Singapore). In June 2010 the travel retailer unveiled SK-II’s New Skin Signature Melting Rich Cream, while November 2011 saw the exclusive launch of the brand’s travel retail set – the Pitera Passion Kit. The brand was first introduced by Nuance-Watson in 2004.

“In partnership with SK-II, Nuance-Watson Singapore has launched many beauty “˜firsts’ to millions around the world,” said Nuance-Watson (Singapore) Managing Director Ken Tse. “We are proud to be the first retailer in the world to launch SK-II’s two new anti-ageing innovations and its photography showcase. It is a testimony of our commitment to bring the best to our shoppers at Changi Airport and we look forward to collaborating with SK-II on similar opportunities.”

The success of the global launch can also be attributed to the support of the commercially-driven airport authority. Changi Airport Group Executive Vice President, Commercial Lim Peck Hoon commented: “Retail innovation is an integral part of the Changi Experience that many of our visitors appreciate at Changi Airport.

“Under our “˜Changi First’ initiative, we partner our tenants and brands to bring forth product or brand debuts to Changi Airport. We are heartened by Nuance-Watson’s and SK-II’s strong support and look forward to more of such tripartite collaborations.”

The “˜An Eye on the Decade’ exhibition will be on display at Changi Airport Terminal 3 until 21 July.

“A Decade of Skin Power”

The development of the two new products is backed by what is touted as the world’s first ten-year holistic facial skin tracking study.

In a bid to better understand the skin ageing process, SK-II embarked on a longitudinal study which tracked the changes in skin wrinkles, texture, radiance, firmness and spots of Japanese women between the ages of 5 to 65. The same parameters were analysed again among the same 108 women ten years later.

The results showed that successful ageing is dependent on skin firmness, radiance and texture – factors that contribute to “˜Skin Power’. The study also uncovered the importance of skin hydration, which declines rapidly in the 20s.

“The 10-year epidemiological study conducted by SK-II is truly groundbreaking as it is the first known to the industry that tracks the skin ageing process of different age groups across a ten year period,” said Professor Masutaka Furue, Chairman and Professor Department of Dermatology School of Medicine from Kyushu University, Japan, who reviewed the study findings.

“The findings covering the full spectrum of successful and unsuccessful skin ageing signs provides new insights that allow us to understand how skin can sustain its beauty in future. This will help to spur new innovations in the anti-ageing category to help women age successfully.”

Further investigation revealed the importance of proteasome, a critical enzyme that works like a “˜power charger’ in skin to not only removes impurities in skin cells but also stimulate the production of structural proteins. Thus, by driving proteasome activity, Skin Power can be sustained.

SK-II’s Skin Signature Series boutique – comprising the Skin Signature moisturiser, Melting Rich Cream and the new Eye Cream – is designed to stimulate proteasome activity, which declines as skin ages.

When used over a four-week period, the Skin Signature Series boutique can shave ten years off from a woman’s perceived age, SK-II claims.

SK-II Skin Signature Eye Cream (15g)

SK-II’s new Skin Signature Eye Cream is said to visibly reduce dark circles and fine lines and increase radiance around the eye area just ten minutes after application

SK-II’s study has found that the first sign of ageing typically occurs in the eye area in women’s early 20s. As one ages, there is a tipping point marked by a sudden change in skin smoothness, radiance and firmness around the eye area; this tipping point occurs typically in the early 30s.

SK-II’s new SK-II Skin Signature Eye Cream contains the same ingredients as the Skin Signature moisturiser – Oli-Vityl, Signaline and SK-II’s key ingredient, Pitera, as well as concentrated levels of Niacinamide.

Using Capsule Technology, the cream gradually releases Signaline – encased in a capsule form – into the skin when the eye area is exposed to environmental or internal stress to provide long-lasting nourishment. It also provides hydration for up to 12 hours.

Just ten minutes after application, the Skin Signature Eye Cream is said to visibly reduce dark circles and fine lines and increase radiance around the eye area. After ten hours, it is claimed to improve skin radiance, firmness and texture by +70%.

SK-II Wrinkle Specialist (25g)

SK-II’s new Wrinkle Specialist reduces wrinkles by softening skin’s surface layer and firming up skin’s inner layers

SK-II’s ten-year study on the skin ageing process has also found that wrinkles develop from as early as the 20s, and increase dramatically when women hit their 40s. Further investigation by SK-II scientists has uncovered the key to reducing the appearance of wrinkles: by maintaining firma-soft skin, or softness in the skin surface layer and firmness in the inner layers.

These new insights have powered the development of SK-II’s Wrinkle Specialist. Taking a two-pronged approach to wrinkle care, the new serum reduces wrinkles by softening skin’s surface layer and firming up skin’s inner layers.

To soften skin’s surface layer, the Wrinkle Specialist is formulated with SK-II’s key ingredient Pitera and Kal-AD, an active new to SK-II that boosts elafin, a biomarker essential for maintaining softer skin.

The cream also contains concentrated levels of Retinyl Propionate, and Pal-KT and Pal-KTTS, peptides new to SK-II that activate the production of vimentin and collagen in the inner skin layers for firmer skin.

After just one application, the Wrinkle Specialist claims to soften skin by 15%. Used over a two-week period, it can reduce wrinkles by -25% and also prevent its future appearance.

The new SK-II Skin Signature Eye Cream (S$130/US$106) and Wrinkle Specialist (S$168/US$137) are exclusively available at Perfumes & Cosmetics in Changi Airport from June 2011. They will roll out across all domestic counters from August.
