Skagen Denmark set to take award-winning watches to Singapore show

Skagen Denmark’s 234 Series received an honourable mention in the 2012 red dot design awards

Scandinavian design brand Skagen Denmark is to launch its Autumn/Winter 2012 men’s and women’s watch collections at the TFWA Asia Pacific show in Singapore next week (Stand number: K18).

Described as “wearable works of art” from husband-and-wife Co-Founders Charlotte and Henrik Jorst, the collections are said to epitomise the core style philosophy and Danish design essence of less is more.

Hiromichi Konno Collection

Headlining the Autumn/Winter 2012 collection is the Hiromichi Konno collection, the second special-edition watch designed by renowned Japanese industrial designer Hiromichi Konno.

Exemplifying the fusion of Danish minimalism and Japanese precision, Konno has designed a unisex timepiece with a distinctive square case in a refined, roundish outline, accentuated with stylish white and yellow hands over a shiny black dial. The strap is made from Italian leather.

For the women’s watch, Hiromichi created a delicate and feminine fashion item to complement every woman’s style, according to the Danish brand.

Eight Swarovski Elements crystals adorning the shiny white/brown mother-of-pearl dial and case are designed to add sophistication to the watch, but also symbolise endless beauty. Italian leather straps with satin top complete the elegant design.

The original Hiromichi Konno watches, which were launched exclusively in Asia Pacific last year, symbolised Skagen Denmark’s first collaboration with an external designer and yielded record sales in Hong Kong, the company said.

Signature Skagen Collection women’s watch

Inspired by the colours of the sunset on the sandy beaches of the Danish resort of Skagen, called The Blue Hour, the watch has cool steel features elegantly designed with Swarovski Elements crystals, silver/gold sunray dial with white raised indexes. The inner dial features three sub dials: 24-hour, date and day.

Skagen Denmark men’s collection

Functionality is the watchword of the men’s lines. The 989 Series pays homage to the simple forms of watchwork with a slight update to give a nod to contemporary fashion. Featuring a minimalist matt dial in black and grey with a vertically brushed outer-ring, the 989 houses simple hourly indicators that drop away to a subtly concentric lower dial accentuating an inventive day and date function. A vertically brushed case with shined and bevelled edges and super-hardened mineral crystal are driven into leather straps to pay tribute to the watchmaking craft.

Snowfall in Skagen Ultra Slim Ceramic collection

This collection is described as a special rendition of the brand’s flagship model, Ultra Slim Ceramic 233, which was launched at the 2012 TFWA World Exhibition. Since 2001, the 233’s innovative ultra-slim case and simple yet striking watch face has won Skagen Denmark several design awards, including the red dot award: product design 2010.

To celebrate this signature design, Skagen Denmark has created a new version that showcases the pairing of ceramic and leather. Featuring an ultra-slim ceramic case in bright white, housing matching layered matt dials with a bright red second hand and steel hourly indicators to capture attention, the watches are completed with leather matt straps in white.

red dot product design award-winning model

In the annual red dot product design 2012 awards, the Skagen Denmark 234 Series was awarded the red dot seal of quality – the third consecutive year the company has achieved this award.

The 234 Series received honourable mention due to its successful detailed solution, Skagen said. This distinctive timepiece features a contoured matt titanium, ultra-slim case with a heavy gauge mesh band, housing an innovative carbon-fibre top ring. The design carries through into the lower dial creating an interlaced carbon backdrop for luminous white indicators and three-hand movement with a bright orange second hand and date function. The timepiece is described as durable and lightweight.
