US/DENMARK. Skagen Designs, the supplier of men’s and women’s contemporary watches and accessories under the Skagen Denmark brand, unveiled details of its Autumn/Winter 2011 collection at the 2011 BaselWorld fair.
The upcoming collection is said to spring from the calming blue seas, sandy shoreline and cloud-wisped skies of Skagen, the Danish resort after which the watch brand is named.
While inspired by the natural beauty of Skagen, the overall vision is led by a modern interpretation and evolution of Danish design today. The new collection spans signature Ultra Slim designs, high-quality, functional watches and contemporary jewellery.

UltraSlim: Inspired by the sand-blasted and weathered rocks of Denmark, Skagen brings a matte design to its watch line-up in offerings for men and women. Described as ultra-slim and elegant, they have a sandstone appearance within their mesh straps, blasted dials and powder-coated cases.
The Ceramic Collection: The women’s collection offers soft white complexions and cool smooth surfaces reflective of the Skagen coastline. Highlighted in stainless steel accents and unique links, they have a clean design. This season, the men’s collection will see its first ceramic styles in rich tones of matte ceramic.
The Titanium Collection: The titanium chronograph and dual time men’s watches bear new matte and machined finishes, and are designed to capture Skagen’s beauty with sea blue, glass fibre dials.
The Stretch Mesh Collection: With a simple and modern design, this new line of mesh bands for women are said to adjust to your wrist with ease and comfort. They are offered in silver, gold and rose gold colours.

The Cocktail collection of women’s timepieces are inspired by both abstract and modern design, featuring slimming circular links, accentuated by fresh water pearls with mother-of-pearl dials and accents of alabaster Swarovski Elements.
Women’s jewellery for Fall
This Autumn, Skagen Designs offers rings and bangles which can be layered and mixed-and-matched with different colours and styles. Also available are stainless steel necklaces and earrings.
Skagen Designs links with top Japanese designer
In other product development news, Skagen Designs has partnered with renowned Japanese designer Hiromichi Konno to develop two special-edition timepieces exclusively for the BaselWorld 2011 trade fair.
Konno’s Scandinavian design roots, paired with his Japanese minimalist sensibilities, made the collaboration between him and the Skagen Denmark brand a natural fit, as they both have the same appreciation for natural beauty and technical precision, Skagen said.
“To have the opportunity to produce exclusive styles with a world-class designer like Hiromichi Konno that can be offered to watch enthusiasts of any background is a truly momentous occasion,” said Skagen Designs co-owner Henrik Jorst.
Konno, a Japanese designer who first honed his craft in Sweden and then London, gained international recognition for the design of his RIN chair. The chair was created for the world famous Danish furniture-as-art company Fritz Hansen, who also counts Arne Jacobsen, Bruno Matthson and Piet Hein among its legendary design alumni.
Konno’s men’s watch for Skagen Designs features a stainless steel case and links with an eye-catching black dial and two-hand Japanese movement, while the women’s model has a stainless steel mirror case wrapped in leather. Accentuating the free flow design are Swarovski Elements crystals and a two-hand Japanese movement.
Both watches feature signed case backs by Hiromichi Konno, who was present at the 2011 BaselWorld fair.
Skagen Designs wins Red Dot award
Skagen Denmark’s signature 809 series men’s multifunction sports watch has been recognised with a prestigious 2011 Red Dot product design award, voted for by a jury of world-class experts.
The awards presentation, honouring Charlotte and Henrik Jorst, husband and wife team and co-founders of Skagen Designs, will take place in the Essen opera house in Germany on 4 July 2011.
“It is such a great honour to be recognised with the red dot quality label in our watch design for the second consecutive year. The 809 series is an empowering watch that incorporates classic Skagen Denmark elements in a sporty design. To see another one of our watches reach this great distinction, is tremendous,” said Charlotte and Henrik Jorst.
Taking inspiration from Henrik Jorst’s passion for high-performance cars, the 809 series features a large titanium case in a variety of colour combinations. The outer dial adds colour-matched hourly indicators to the surrounding case which drives into a pressed mesh lightweight band.
Together with the other award-winning products, the winning Skagen Denmark watch will be displayed on 5 July 2011 in the exhibition “Design on stage – winners red dot award: product design 2011” in the red dot design museum at the world heritage site of the Zeche Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen.
After that it will be presented in the red dot design museum’s permanent exhibition for at least one year. With approximately 1,500 products over more than 4,000sq m, the red dot design museum houses the largest permanent exhibition of contemporary design worldwide.
