CHINA. Hopes for a rapid recovery of China-South Korean travel have been hit by Beijing’s suspension yesterday of short-term visas for South Koreans entering China.
The move was in response to what China saw as the Republic’s discriminatory policies against Chinese visitors.
The restrictions on travellers from China include a requirement for negative pre- and post-arrivals PCR test results and a suspension of short-term visas for Chinese visitors.
The decision, announced by the Chinese Embassy in South Korea, will be reassessed as soon as South Korea removes its “discriminatory” travel restrictions targeting Chinese travellers, a statement said.
Chinese state media Global Times also revealed yesterday that the Chinese Embassy in Japan had also issued a notice on Tuesday to suspend the issuing of ordinary visas for Japanese citizens who want to travel to China.
