Pernod Ricard has released a new line extension, Absolut Amber, into a number of travel retail channels, with the oak-matured vodka making its debut in Panama and selected US airports.
The drink is created by exposing Absolut to a variety of different oak types to produce oak barrel-aged spirits, and blending it with oak macerated spirits.
It has a natural amber colour and is said to have a mellow and oaky taste while retaining the quality and smoothness of its original form. According to Pernod Ricard, the result is an “exceptional drinking experience that transcends the traditional distinction between white and dark spirits”. Absolut Amber is 40% alcohol by volume.
It went on sale in Panama travel retail and select on-premise venues from 1 August and in North America travel retail from 1 September in JFK International Airport, Miami International and Dallas International. Other markets are still to be confirmed.
“With Absolut Amber we break down the traditional boundaries of white and dark spirits,” said The Absolut Company Global Brand Director Mathias Westphal. “We are now able to offer our consumers a completely new taste experience.”
Master Blender Per Hermansson, who hand crafted the spirit in Ã…hus, Sweden, added: “While experimenting with resting Absolut in oak, we explored various methods of barrel-aging, types of oak, and ways to use macerations, before landing on the perfect blend.”
