SPIRITS & WINES: Abu Dhabi Duty Free drinks to liquor success

UAE. July’s sales underlined the impressive success of Abu Dhabi Duty Free’s (ADDF) Summer Adventure campaign and proved that the retailer was bouncing back from the impact of the Iraq war.

Sales rose +19.5% compared to the same period last year, an impressive +13.8% ahead of budget.

Liquor emerged as the shining category from the big-budget summer promotion, which, according to managing director Mohamed Mounib, was an attempt to revive an industry suffering greatly from international geo-political circumstances (notably the Iraq war and the SARS crisis).

The campaign, which runs until the end of August, aims to address what ADDF says is the key collective challenge facing all travel retailers – how to increase penetration in store, rates of conversion to purchase and overall spend per head.
