GERMANY. The international premium red wine competition “Top Select 2004“ of the sophisticated German wine magazine Selection has awarded Golden Kaan Winemaker‘s Reserve with five stars, classified as “outstanding“.
More than 1,400 red wines from all over the world, amongst them a large number of wines from South Africa, were competing for accolades in the renowned Top Select 2004. A specialised jury of 70 members tested the wines according to a 20-point system, which were then further converted into stars and Golden Kaan Winemaker’s Reserve was the only wine which managed to reach five stars within the South African segment.
The Cabernet Sauvignon vintage 2000 impressed the jury especially with its “full and dense aromas, full body and ripe fruit“. This wine, made in the classic French style, is characterised by sophisticated Cassis and pepper aromas. Well-balanced tannins give it a harmonious structure and good potential for future bottle maturation.
Golden Kaan is a joint venture between two drinks industry giants and two continents: the German-based wine company and successful brand builder Racke and KWV International, the leading South African winery. Racke International launched Golden Kaan onto international and travel retail markets in June (The Moodie Report, 26 June 2003). Two ranges comprise the Golden Kaan portfolio, the Classic range and the Winemaker’s Reserve.
The complete result of the competition is published in the Selection February 2004 (spring) issue.
