AMERICAS. Leading travel restaurateur SSP has paid tribute to Damon Wong, Director of Operations at Vancouver Airport, as he marks his 70th birthday on 14 September.
A well-known character at the airport – dubbed the ‘Mayor of YVR’ – Wong has been in this role since 2009. He oversees business sales, the operational budget and provides financial analysis for the group’s F&B business at Vancouver Airport.
SSP America Executive Vice President Pat Murray said: “Damon’s passion, commitment to the team and energy stand out to the entire team as he nears this milestone birthday. He has run harder than ever over the past few months as we work through the effects of COVID-19, and he shows no signs of slowing down. We pay tribute to his contribution and leadership.”
Wong joined SSP after a distinguished career in the travel hospitality business, notably in senior roles with Plaza Premium Lounge (2007-2009) and Cara Operations, now Recipe Unlimited (1995-2006).
Across his career he has played an influential role in designing, developing and implementing many ground-breaking dining facilities at Vancouver Airport and at other Canadian airports.
