SSP brings healthy Haferkater store to Frankfurt Central Station

GERMANY. SSP Group and DB Station&Service, a subsidiary of Germany’s national railway company Deutsche Bahn, have opened a Haferkater outlet at Frankfurt Central Station.

The Berlin-based start-up brings healthy, on-trend dining to the pavilion with freshly cooked porridge a speciality.

“The founders of Haferkater have established this traditional Scottish dish as a popular breakfast alternative,” SSP Director of Business Development & Properties Jan Kamp said.

“This brand is a perfect complement to the gastronomic offer here in Frankfurt and also to the SSP portfolio. Haferkater is one of the latest additions to our brand mix and is yet another example of how we are constantly developing our business.”

Good to go: Haferkater specialises in porridge with a variety of health-conscious toppings

The three founders started Haferkater in downtown Berlin and have since won a number of start-up awards. The brand now has six stores in Germany, with more to follow.

“Porridge stands for the lifestyle of a health-conscious, young urban generation,” Haferkater Co-Founder and MD Levin Siert said. “Our customers value wholesome, natural food. This is what they want for breakfast and for takeaway.”

Haferkater porridge is made using fresh floured oats, water and salt. Customers can choose from a variety of sweet and savoury toppings, including almonds, cashews, cedar seeds, maple syrup, cream cheese, pear, honey, walnuts and thyme.

The menu also includes lunch options ranging from home-made salads and quinoa bowls to wraps and pastries. Coffee is made from beans roasted exclusively for Haferkater.

SSP now operates seven stores at Frankfurt Central Station and plans to open further Haferkater stores at other locations.
