CANADA. SSP Canada has won a contract to develop and operate six food & beverage outlets at Vancouver International Airport.
The contract is part of a four-phase F&B refreshment at the airport’s International Terminal, according to Vancouver Airport Authority.
The restaurants will cover an area of 14,230sq ft and include a mix of local and modern international brands, SSP Canada said.
Among the local offerings will be Lift Bar & Grill, a full service restaurant which will be based on the brand’s original location in the Coal Harbour area of Vancouver. It will serve Pacific Northwest fare and feature a selection of international brews and regional wines.
Local favourite The Taco Shack is a quick service restaurant serving California-style Mexican cuisine including tacos, burritos and quesadillas. Pajo’s Fish & Chips is another quick service restaurant and is located in the pre-security food court in the International Terminal. Pajo’s is said to serve the best fish and chips in the region and offers locally sourced plates.
Bánh Shop offers traditional Vietnamese bánh mì street sandwiches and the airport opening represents the brand’s entry into the Canadian market. Bánh mì are warm and crispy French baguettes filled with chargrilled pork, beef or chicken and combined with flavours of Southeast Asia such as Thai basil, cilantro, pickled vegetables and cucumber.
SSP concept Urban Crave is a street food-inspired full service restaurant & café. At Vancouver International it will feature authentic Asian street food options delivered in a contemporary style. A full service bar will offer a range of local beers.
Freshii offers a healthy food-to-go option with more than 70 ingredients and dressings and 20 chef-designed menu items which can be customised for almost every dietary need, according to SSP.
SSP’s units will open from December 2016 and throughout 2017.
SSP America President and CEO Michael Svagdis said: “Our mix includes local brands that showcase the area’s best culinary talent, keeping jobs and investment in the community, as well as brands that embrace emerging food trends with customisable menus full of fresh, bold-tasting ingredients. SSP has been operating at the airport since 2009, and we look forward to continuing our investment in that partnership.”
Vancouver Airport Authority Senior Vice-President, Strategy & CFO Glenn McCoy commented: “[The airport] provides customers with the first and last impression of British Columbia. We are excited to welcome new food & beverage tenants who showcase the very best culinary talents of this region.”
