SSP deepens Asia presence with Kualanamu International Airport F&B openings

INDONESIA. SSP has revealed details about its recently-struck seven-year deal to operate a restaurants and cafés at Kualanamu International Airport in Medan, North Sumatra. The agreement comes through SSP Taurus Gemilang Indonesia, SSP’s joint venture with local partner Taurus Gemilang.

The new outlets are located airside in the airport’s domestic terminal. They feature popular international names such as Burger King and Dairy Queen, alongside Malaysia’s largest halal-certified coffee name OldTown White Coffee.

The agreement builds on SSP’s entry into the Indonesian market, following the announcement of its joint venture with Taurus Gemilang and the start of operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, Juanda International Airport in Surabaya and Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan International Airport at Balikpapan.

SSP Asia Pacific Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Robinson said: “Following our announcement to enter into the Indonesian market last year, we are delighted to have secured this new contract to bring some truly great dining options to even more passengers in Indonesia. Kualanamu International Airport is managed by Angkasa Pura Aviasi, the joint venture between Indonesian airports company Angkasa Pura & GMR Airports.

The fifth largest airport in Indonesia, Kualanamu International welcomed around eight million passengers in 2019. Most of the airport’s traffic is domestic, with international travellers accounting for just over one-quarter. The airport is well connected by rail to the city of Medan 23km away. Medan is the largest city in North Sumatra, with an urban population of around five million.  ‍
