SSP opens Fly Inn Restaurant and Deli at Helsinki Airport

Fly Inn Restaurant and Deli at Helsinki Airport is said to offer a wide-ranging menu, modern design and excellent views over the airport

FINLAND. Leading food travel services group SSP has opened the Fly Inn Restaurant and Deli at Helsinki Airport. The new outlet is said to offer a wide-ranging menu, modern design and excellent views over the airport.

Fly Inn, which is located airside near Gate 27, was created by leading design company dSign Vertti Kivi & Co in striking blacks and greens, and features natural woods and planting.

“The deli offers a breakfast menu, fresh salads and coffees, while the restaurant has an a la carte menu featuring a wider range of top-quality Finnish specialities, including reindeer burger,’ said Tony Hienonen, SSP Finland’s Executive Chef de Cuisines. To accompany their meal, travellers can choose from an extensive range of wines which has been specially chosen to complement the dishes served, said SSP.

The new facility also incorporates a lounge, which is located on a mezzanine viewing terrace. Called the Lapin Kulta Lounge, the area is open to all passengers, and serves a range of snacks and drinks from the deli.

Meanwhile earlier this month, SSP hosted this year’s Food & Fun event, an international festival celebrating innovation in travel cuisine organised by Finnair and Icelandair.

At the event, top chefs from around the world were invited to create new menus from a range of ingredients around the theme of East meets West. Then during a panel discussion and seminar, food industry professionals from across the business debated food trends, and the future tastes of travellers.

The chefs who took part were Kazumi Okochi, Erwin Peters, Glen Ballis, Michael Ginor, Siggi Hall, Flora Mikola and Matti Jämsen, Finland’s candidate in World Cuisine Contest Bocuse d’Or which will be held in Lyon in January.

SSP Finland provides restaurant, café, retail, meeting and lounge services at Helsinki and Rovaniemi airports. It operates a total of over 20 retail and food outlets at Helsinki Airport, in both landside and airside areas. SSP Finland operates cafés and restaurants at Rovaniemi as part of Finavia’s ‘Hello’ service concept as well as the duty free shop. SSP Finland has about 250 employees.
