FRANCE. Global travel food & beverage specialist SSP has secured an extension of its catering contract at Paris Gare de Lyon to 2020. The new contract is estimated to be worth €500 million.
The deal comes as part of a major redevelopment programme due to be completed in 2013, which will see the concessionaire invest €10 million with the opening of several new concepts.
One of the first openings since the deal was struck is a 170sq m Starbucks coffee house with a 60sq m terrace area in Hall 3.
Hall 1 now features a Starbucks kiosk, the first of the format in a French railway station, which is adjacent to a new Brioche Dorée bakery. SSP reports that the two complementary brands have been trading successfully since their opening earlier this autumn.

A second Brioche Dorée in Hall 1 features a take-away counter offering grab & go products, with a seating area overlooking the station concourse.
As part of the new enhancements, SSP will be offering customers a range of technology facilities such as iPads at Brioche Dorée to access the internet. Additionally, in a first for Gare de Lyon, the new space will offer free wi-fi and the Powerkiss wire-free charging facility which allows passengers to charge their phones, iPods and iPads without having to “˜plug in’.

Take-away outlet Bonne Journée is located in Hall 3 and the line-up is completed by convenience store eat’Shop, which provides a range of self-service snacks and essential travel items.
“SSP is investing over €10 million in this new development at Gare de Lyon, as part of a major initiative due to be completed in 2013,” said SSP France, Belgium and Holland CEO Gérard d’Onofrio. “We are certain that our new outlets will do much to enhance the experience for travellers passing through Gare de Lyon, and will pave the way for some exciting new plans we have for our business here at Gare de Lyon.”
