James Kfouri: Wonderful predicition

AUSTRALIA. Buoyed no doubt by some local knowledge, Melbourne-based Wonderful Pistachios & Almonds Director of Sales, Oceania, SE Asia, CaSA & Global Travel Retail James Kfouri has snapped up the prize in our latest Strange Predictions* contest hosted by Strange Nature Gin of New Zealand.

As reported, we called on travel retail and aviation sector tennis pundits to pick the results of the recent Australian Tennis Open, men’s and women’s. We asked:

  • Who will win the men’s tournament? And who will be runner-up?
  • Who will win the women’s tournament? And who will be runner-up?
  • Tie breaker: How many sets in total will be played across the two final matches?

Some upset results in the earlier rounds and Novak Djokovic’s semi-final injury played havoc with most predictions. However, James correctly chose Jannik Sinner as the men’s winner and the correct number of sets (six) across the two finals, the latter prediction clinching his victory in a tie-break over ARI Global Corporate Finance Lead John Wallace (who opted for seven sets).

Both plumped for (runner-up to American Madison Keys) Belarusian star Aryna Sabalenka to win the women’s tournament, earning each a bonus point.

Melbourne-based Lotte Duty Free Oceania Assistant Buyer Robbie Zhang was in third place.

As with all our Strange Predictions competitions, the winner receives a bottle of the outstanding Strange Nature Gin, whose spirit base is drawn from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

Strange? In the case of James, just wonderfully nuts. ✈

Strange Predictions

Strange Nature, the quirky super-premium New Zealand gin, which has gained impressive traction in travel retail and selected local markets since its launch in October 2021, is partnering with The Moodie Davitt Report in a pioneering readers’ competition called Strange Predictions.

The year-round programme feature a series of predictive contests designed to test readers’ punditry skills across a myriad of events, ranging from sporting contests to political elections and other intriguing – and sometimes strange – events.

Strange Nature General Manager – Owner Rhys Julian said: “At Strange Nature we like to embrace the strange.  We consider our gin to be stranger than most, considering its grape origins, one botanical as well as sustainability and traceability credentials.

“Therefore, in fitting with the brand we thought partnering with The Moodie Davitt Report’s Strange Predictions was a perfect fit. A fun competition for everyone, slightly left of centre, is very much our vibe.”
