Susan Whelan: Image Businesswoman and Overseas Businesswoman of the Year |
IRELAND. Susan Whelan, Senior Executive Vice President of Thai travel retailer King Power International Group and CEO of Leicester City Football Club, was named Image Businesswoman of the Year Award at a ceremony in Dublin last week.
In addition to being awarded the overall title of Businesswoman of the Year, she also won the Image Overseas Irish Businesswoman award.
Originally from Dublin, Ms Whelan is a Board Director of King Power and one of travel retail’s most respected executives. Leicester City Football Club was acquired in 2010 by Asian Football Investments, a consortium led by King Power Chairman Vichai Raksriaksorn, who appointed her to the role of CEO in July 2011.
Ms Whelan has executive responsibility for all aspects of the club’s day-to-day management (she is one of the few women football club CEOs in the UK in a male-dominated field), juggling that with a key leadership role at King Power. She splits her time between London, Leicester and Bangkok.
Image Publications Managing Director Richard Power said: “Not only is Susan a fantastic winner and representative of Image Magazine, she proudly represents Ireland in a global capacity.”
The Image Businesswoman Awards are sponsored by Enterprise Ireland and RTE Radio 1.

Julie Sinnamon, Enterprise Ireland Director for global business development, said: “Enterprise Ireland wants to encourage and assist many more women to start their own high-potential companies that can win business abroad and create jobs at home.
“The award recipients are all exemplary in their entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to business excellence.
“Female entrepreneurship is a vitally important element of the business landscape and these awards will help put the spotlight on the contribution of female entrepreneurship in Ireland.”
