NETHERLANDS. Duty free distributor Sea & Sky Supply has recently taken on Finnish sports watch brand Suunto.

The high-end, computerised watches – some with built-in GPS navigation systems – retail at between €200 (US$267) and €700 (US$935). They are already listed by NAAFI (British military market) and China Duty Free; at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol; and inflight on KLM and Finnair.

The handmade models – dubbed “˜wrist-top computers’ by Suunto – cover sports including golf, sailing, personal training and skiing.

The golf watch is said to act like a dedicated coach, telling you the distance for each shot, keeps the score, and stores information that aids you in making decisions. You can also analyse your game with a PC interface that stores information on the courses you have played.

The marine model is said to help skippers sail faster and analyse the prevailing conditions regardless of whether power is coming from the wind or engine.

The snow sports watch, endorsed by professional skier Hermann Meier, analyses weather conditions and stores information on altitude.

In the US and Canada, Suunto recently launched an Internet-based watch called Sportsproof Internet n3, which allows you to receive information from the web to your wrist. News, weather and stock quotes are available.

The n3 will be introduced to the European market in six months, said Sea & Sky Supply Account Manager Worldwide Rianne van de Kerkhof.
