AUSTRALIA. Sydney Airport has announced Global Exchange as its new financial services partner at the international Terminal 1, replacing Travelex.

The airport company said Global Exchange will offer “a new and innovative foreign exchange service, enhancing value and choice”.

The currency exchange bureaux, positioned at 21 locations throughout T1, are designed to enhance the customer experience through upgraded technology to improve operational efficiencies. They will offer a wider range of services, including guaranteed booking rates, global pre-paid money cards and a currency buy-back service.

Passengers will be able to pre-order currency online with no deposit required and pick up at the airport.

“We are very proud to be the foreign exchange services partner for Sydney Airport and will be providing much more than a currency exchange transaction,” said Global Exchange President Isidoro Alanis. “Global Exchange will surprise customers with new services and technology support, delivering a new concept of foreign exchange for the 21st century.”

Sydney Airport said it selected Global Exchange as its financial services partner after inviting expressions of interest from a number of global financial and related institutions. Each had been invited to “explore, redefine and revolutionise” the airport’s current financial services offering, catering to the changing needs of the modern traveller.

“We’re thrilled to appoint Global Exchange as our official foreign exchange partner; they bring an innovative and holistic approach to our current financial services offering, and have a deep knowledge of the Sydney Airport market and our diverse international passenger mix,” Sydney Airport General Manager Retail Glyn Williams said.

“Global Exchange will offer a wider range of services at Sydney Airport such as travel insurance, global pre-paid money cards, and a convenient currency buy-back service where leftover cash is bought at the same rate it was sold,” Global Exchange Country Manager Australia Rafael Vicente Cardoso said. “It’s all part of our focus on enhancing the customer experience.

“We know that customers need to be served quickly and fast, which requires a high number of customer service positions at each office so that waiting time is as short as possible.”

Global Exchange said it always stocks large quantities of local banknotes and change. This caters to passengers’ preferences for small denomination banknotes, thus avoiding the inconvenience of paying with high denomination banknotes.

Global Exchange’s offering will be complemented by ANZ, one of Australia’s leading banking providers, which will offer passengers an additional opportunity to exchange currency. ANZ will also provide local banking services and facilities at two T1 locations.

Travelex will continue to operate at the T2 and T3 Domestic terminals.

Global Exchange, headquartered in Spain, is present in over 50 international airports in 20 countries spanning five continents, serving more than 4.8 million customers a year. Following strong growth in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, it now claims to be the airport sector’s second-largest global foreign exchange provider at airports.
