ESTONIA. Tallink Duty Free has hailed its appearance in The Moodie Davitt Report’s recently published Top Travel Retailer rankings. The company’s estimated €293 million 2023 retail sales turnover secured it a highly creditable 20th position.
Tallink Duty Free – the sole cruise/ferry retailer to make the list – is the retail arm of Tallink Grupp, one of the leading providers of passenger and cargo transport services in the northern part of the Baltic Sea region. The company owns 14 vessels and operates seven ferry routes under the Tallink and Silja Line brand names.
The retailer said its position in the rankings reflects the company’s “strong strategy, competitive product offerings and commitment to customer satisfaction”.
The parent company reported €391 million in shopping and dining sales in 2023, up +3.2% year-on-year.

Tallink Duty Free operates onboard Tallink Grupp’s vessels, offering a wide range of products, including fragrances, cosmetics, fashion, beverages and confectionery.
Tallink Duty Free Head Aimar Pärna said that despite the overall strained economic situation in Scandinavia and the Baltic States, and its effects on people’s travel and consumption habits, the retailer’s appearance in the top travel retailer’s list is even more impressive.
He commented: “Being recognised as one of the top global duty-free operators is a great honour for Tallink Duty Free. This ranking is an outstanding achievement for our dedicated team, whose hard work and innovative spirit continue to enhance our customers’ shopping experiences.
“We are especially proud to represent both Europe and the maritime industry in this esteemed ranking.

“We would like to thank our customers for this result, as their trust in our product range, service and shopping environment remains high. I am also delighted to say that our cooperation with partners – brands, manufacturers and suppliers – continues to be very good and consistent, driven by a desire for excellence, to keep up the element of surprise and provide a steady stream of new products and brands for our customers.”
Tallink Duty Free Travel Retail Business Development Manager Eve Purge said: “Our success comes from maintaining mutual respect and from understanding the importance of all the parties in the value chain. The key to our success in cooperation with our suppliers is certainly open communication, adherence to agreements and reliable implementation of planned sales and marketing activities.
“And our secret to successfully competing with the big global giants of travel retail is our flexibility and responsiveness, while we are driven by big goals in terms of both competence and performance.”
