Tasa Meng wins duty free and F&B concession on Matsu islands

TAIWAN. Duty free retailer Tasa Meng has been awarded a concession to operate a duty free shop, souvenir store and café/restaurant on the Matsu islands. The outlets, provisionally planned to open by November, will be housed in a new visitor centre to be opened by the Matsu National Scenic Area Administration later this month.

Matsu National Scenic Area Administration built the visitor centre and awarded the concession following the passing of a referendum in early July allowing casino resorts to be built on the islands, which lie just a few miles off the coast of Mainland China. The Administration and Tasa Meng expect the new developments to result in a surge in Chinese visitors.

Tasa Meng said: “Matsu’s shift in image from a pristine island to a luxurious vacation village could appeal to Chinese tourists, known for their strong interests in luxury brands. The market potential is huge, and it is a very good opportunity to develop our business.”

The retailer confirmed that it is in the process of planning its offer and has not yet finalised which brands will be presented in its stores.
