Teacher’s Origin launches in global travel retail

INTERNATIONAL. Beam Global Spirits & Wine has launched Teacher’s Origin blended Scotch whisky (pictured in our unique Moodie Magnifier in partnership with B+D below) in global travel retail this month.

Successfully introduced in India, where Teacher’s is said to be the number-one blended whisky, the launch is the first step in the global roll-out of the brand.

The launch is also part of Beam Global’s longer-term ambition to create a family of Teacher’s whisky expressions, which now includes a premium blend. By recreating the traditional flavours of the 19th century, the new expression pays tribute to founder William Teacher, the supplier said.

Teacher’s blended Scotch whisky contains at least 35 different single malts from all over Scotland, but the heart of the blend is Ardmore, a lightly peated highland single malt. The whiskies undergo a double maturation process in 19th century-styled quarter casks; the smaller cask size allows for more contact between the whisky and the wood, resulting in a full and rich blend, the brand said.

Teacher’s Origin has 65% malt content, said to be much higher than standard Scotch blends.

Beam Global Spirits & Wine Director for European Travel Retail Gareth Brown said: “Origin allows the Teacher’s trademark to compete with aged blends up to 12 years old for the first time and provides us with a step forward in brand development.

“The travel retail channel is a great environment for the trial and discovery of new whiskies by consumers, so we are keen to see how it performs in this market. We are expecting a high level of consumer interest following the launch, especially in key markets, including European travel retail as well as Middle East and African markets where Teacher’s is already a leading whisky brand.”

Teacher’s Origin will be available in 1-litre bottles and also in a premium gift box at a recommended retail price (RRP) of €29.90.
