Tender called to develop World Trade Centre at Mashhad Airport

IRAN.. The Iranian Airports Company (IAC), a division of Iran’s Ministry of Road and Transportation, has invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) to develop and operate a World Trade Center at Mashhad International Airport, via The Moodie Report.

Mashhad International Airport, or Shahid Hashemi Nejad Airport, is located in the city of Mashhad in Khorasan province.

It has frequent domestic flights to several cities within Iran and also international flights, predominantly to the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Afghanistan and Qatar.

Mashhad International Airport is the second most important airport in Iran. It serves as a leading tourist and pilgrims’ destination and has experienced sharp and unexpected passenger growth over the past few years.

In 2007, for example, it posted a +37% increase year-on-year in passengers and a +26% rise in the total number of flights. In the same period international passenger numbers and flights grew by +41% and +33% respectively.

Mashhad International Airport has an integrated international/domestic terminal building, thus it is potentially ready for a World Trade Center to be established, IAC said.

“The World Trade Center is a key source of professional and technical support. It is a multifunctional facility designed to cater to the many and various needs of the international business community,” it commented.
