Tender launched for eight F&B and retail spaces at Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport

USA. The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) has this week launched a tender for eight food & beverage and retail spaces at Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport. The opportunities are available as part of the US$263 million, 168,000sq ft Terminal 2 expansion.

Seven of the concessions will be airside, including a full-service restaurant (4,878sq ft), a bar (581sq ft), two cafés (1,155sq ft and 1,662sq ft), two adjacent quick-service restaurants (2,274sq ft combined) and a news/convenience store (1,628sq ft). An opportunity for a landside café (1,830sq ft) is also available.

The contract duration for all spaces is ten years.

T2, which opened in 2002, currently serves as the home hub of Sun Country Airlines and six other domestic and international air carriers.

Speaking to The Moodie Davitt Report, MAC Interim Vice President of Revenue Development Isabella Rhawie said bids are being encouraged from local, national and overseas F&B and retail operators.

Asked why Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport is an attractive target for potential operators, Rhawie pointed out that approximately 25% of passengers are business travellers (15 Fortune 500 companies are based in Minnesota).

She also said the airport’s excellence is underlined by its achievement of being named the Best Airport in North America in the 25-40 million passenger category by the Airports Council International for seven of the past eight years.

Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport surpassed 34.7 million total passengers in 2023, closing in on its all-time record of 39.5 million passengers set in 2019 just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2023 total marks an +11% increase compared to 2022.

Rhawie added: “Terminal 2 operations and infrastructure is expanding with growing need from passengers. We are looking for operators that have a focus on excellent customer service and innovation so that Minnesota thrives.”

MAC CEO Brian Rys commented: “We are seeing a surge in travel demand, highlighted by a string of record-setting months at Terminal 2 this year. This project is a long-term strategic investment to support our airlines, improve the passenger experience, and to keep pace with demand that fuels growth at MSP and in our local economy.”

Construction work on the T2 expansion began last month and is scheduled to be completed by early 2027.

The tender deadline is 9 December 2024. For more information, contact isabella.rhawie@mspmac.org. ✈
