The Estée Lauder Companies announces new senior appointments – 17/07/06

US. The Estée Lauder Companies has confirmed two key appointments within its Clinique brand. Jim Nevins has been named Senior Vice President/Global Creative Director. Jane Lauder will become Senior Vice President, Global Product Marketing.

Both Nevins and Lauder will report to Lynne Green, Clinique Global President. Nevins officially took up his role on 1 July; Lauder’s appointment is effective 1 August.

Nevins’ new role marks his return to Clinique, where he was Senior Vice President/Creative Director from 1992 until 1999. While at Clinique, he provided the creative vision for Clinique Happy, including the name, packaging and advertising, among other accomplishments.

“We are very pleased to have Jim back at Clinique at this important moment in the brand’s history,” declared Greene. “He has an intuitive understanding of the Clinique consumer and is able to translate that vision into wonderfully inventive, dynamic concepts for advertising, packaging and merchandising, among many other things. We all look forward to working with him and to the contributions he is sure to make.”

Since 2003 Nevins has been a key member of the BeautyBank team, directing the creative development of the division’s five brands, including American Beauty, Flirt!, Good Skin, Grassroots and Daisy Fuentes. He will retain these responsibilities, and continue to report to BeautyBank President Jane Hertzmark Hudis in this capacity.

After leaving Clinique in 1999 to become Executive Vice President of Global Marketing for Gap Inc, Nevins rejoined The Estée Lauder Companies in 2001 as a senior member of the Estée Lauder brand’s creative team.

In that capacity he supervised merchandising, store and package design, global brand operations and global creative services. Nevins also served as Senior Vice President, Creative Director, of J. Crew Inc from 1990 to 1992.

Nevins succeeds Giovanni Russo, a consultant who had served as Clinique’s Creative Director since July 2005. Russo will remain with The Estée Lauder Companies as a consultant, working on special projects.

Lauder has most recently held the role of Vice President of Marketing for The Estée Lauder Companies’ BeautyBank division. She spearheaded the creation and launch of American Beauty, its skin care and cosmetics line, as well as Flirt!, the colour cosmetics brand, which are sold exclusively at Kohl’s department stores. For both lines, she directed brand positioning, product development and creative direction, among other responsibilities.

“We are delighted that Jane is bringing her talents back to Clinique, where her career at the Company began,” said Greene. “In her ten years on various brands she has developed into one of the beauty industry’s most innovative and respected executives.

“At BeautyBank she embraced the entrepreneurial spirit, leading the streamlined team that created the first-ever beauty department for Kohl’s in just 16 months. Her strategic focus, creativity and dedication will be extremely valuable to Clinique as she leads the worldwide marketing activities for the brand.”

Until she joined BeautyBank in 2003 Lauder had been Vice President of Marketing for Stila since 2001. Before that she held positions of increasing responsibility at Clinique, beginning as an Account Executive for Lord & Taylor in 1996 and progressing to Promotions Manager and then Marketing Director, New Concepts, Clinique North America. She was promoted to Executive Director, Treatment Marketing, in 2000.

Prior to her arrival at The Estée Lauder Companies Lauder was an Assistant Account Executive at advertising firm Hal Riney & Partners. She is a granddaughter of The Estée Lauder Companies’ Founder, Estée Lauder.

In other news, Julie Howard has been named Senior Vice President, Global Marketing and Brand Development, BeautyBank. She joins the division from Clinique, where she was most recently Vice President, Global Product Marketing.

Her appointment is effective 1 September, and she will report to Jane Hertzmark Hudis, President of BeautyBank.

Lastly, Beth DiNardo has been named Senior Vice President/General Manager of Rodan + Fields Worldwide and of Darphin North America, effective 31 July. She succeeds Shashi Batra and will report to Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne, Group President, The Estée Lauder Companies.

“We are very pleased that Beth will be leading Rodan + Fields and Darphin as these brands enter an important new phase,” said Bousquet-Chavanne. “She is a respected leader and proven brand builder. These abilities, along with her years of success in marketing, focus on global business growth and passionate, creative approach to management, will lead Rodan + Fields Worldwide and Darphin North America to dynamic growth on a global level.”

A nine-year veteran of the Company, DiNardo was most recently Senior Vice President, Global Marketing for Clinique, where she oversaw all of the worldwide marketing activities for the brand.

Dinardo began her career in consumer packaged goods at Pepsico and then held several marketing positions at Tambrands. In 1994 she became Director of Marketing at Revlon and was later named Director of Skincare there.

Note: Rodan + Fields was founded by Stanford University-trained dermatologists Katie Rodan MD and Kathy Fields MD, and acquired by The Estée Lauder Companies in 2003. The brand offers solutions for specific skin problems, targeting them with individually packaged, dedicated regimens trademarked as Multi-Med Therapy. Product lines including Unblemish, Reverse, Soothe, Essentials and Anti-Age merge effective over-the-counter medicines with soothing botanicals.

Darphin is a well-established Paris-based skincare brand that offers prestige skincare, make-up and personal care products created from plant extracts and botanical aromas. It was acquired by The Estée Lauder Companies in 2003.
