In China, Labour Day or ‘国际劳动节’ was officially declared a national holiday in 1949.

Since Labour Day is celebrated on 1 May in China, the holiday is often called by ‘五一节’ or simply ‘五一’ which translates to ‘May Day’ or ‘May First’.

Labour Day is traditionally one of the busiest and most festive periods for Chinese travel retail.
