The Estée Lauder Companies has announced that it has received an A- score from Carbon Disclosure Project’s (CDP) 2019 climate rankings. The beauty giant scored highly for its environmental transparency and climate change policies.
CDP is a global authority on climate change. Its annual CDP Climate Change Questionnaire determines the environmental impact of companies from all over the world.
The Estée Lauder Companies has been participating in the Questionnaire for ten years.
The score offers third-party recognition of The Estée Lauder Companies’s extensive efforts to mitigate its environmental impact. Over 8,300 companies participated in the questionnaire in 2019, and only 4% of correspondents received an A- score or above. With its A- score, The Estée Lauder Companies is now ranked among the world’s leading sustainable companies.
“We are thankful to our employees, the agents of change who make this kind of sustainable progress possible across our organisation” — The Estée Lauder Companies Senior Vice President Global Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability Nancy Mahon
The Estée Lauder Companies Senior Vice President Global Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability Nancy Mahon commented, “As a global company, employer, and corporate citizen committed to reducing its carbon footprint, we are proud to receive an A-score on CDP’s 2019 Climate Questionnaire.”
“We are thankful to our employees, the agents of change who make this kind of sustainable progress possible across our organisation,” Mahon added.
The Estée Lauder Companies anticipates that future submissions will reflect further progress as the company continues to build on its sustainability agenda. Last year it signed its largest-ever reneweable energy contract. As reported, the virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) is tied to the Ponderosa Wind Farm in Beaver County, Oklahoma and will bolster Estée Lauder’s renewable electricity footprint in the US and Canada.
It has also completed a 1.4MW ground-mounted solar array in New York, in addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain.
The Estée Lauder Companies Executive Vice President Global Supply Chain Greg Polcer commented, “We anticipate that these initiatives, along with other climate-related projects underway, will enable The Estée Lauder Companies to further reduce its impact on the environment and drive actions towards a more sustainable world.”
