UAE. Around 100 duty free & travel retail executives have gathered in Dubai for the 29th edition of the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup, one of the highlights of the industry social calendar.

The hugely popular Dubai Duty Free-hosted event takes place over two days at Emirates Golf Club today (24 November) and Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club tomorrow. The Moodie Davitt Report is both sponsor and participant; with President Dermot Davitt – a previous winner – flying the company’s colours.

The invitational golf tournament precedes the Middle East & Africa Duty Free Association (MEADFA) Conference which takes place in Bahrain from 27-29 November.

Our golf correspondents Sandy Lie and Juan Wood, together with Dermot ‘Divot’ and our various conscripted photo-journalists, bring you images from the event.

Day 2 – Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club

The photobomber strikes again: Having heard the click of a camera from 13 holes away, Jonathan ‘Chaps’ Holland rushes to join (from left) James Kfouri, Barry Geoghegan and Kevin Walsh in a(nother) photoshoot; (Right) Kevin Walsh and James Kfouri take Chaps under control to lead him back to his own foursome
(Left) Wonderful Pistachios & Almonds Director of Sales, Australia, NZ, SE Asia and Global Travel Retail James Kfouri goes nuts after a birdie two; (Right) Chaps Holland has even photobombed his own photo.
And on the first tee from Ireland via the Philippines it’s John Sutcliffe. Whoosh… straight down the middle.
An early sensation on day 2 as Sunil Tuli records a hole in one. “Darn it,” he told The Moodie Davitt Report before dashing to the pro shop to buy a new pair of socks.
He may not win the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup but serial photobomber Jonathan ‘Chaps’ Holland (second from left) looks certain to retain the trophy for most photographed man this year. He has already appeared in six pictures, equal to the number of stableford points he scored yesterday. Expect him to pop up from behind tonight when the main trophy is awarded.
A watery grave awaits many a golf ball today at the aptly named Dubai Creek Golf Club

He said: “We are delighted to have so many people playing and so many people returning year after year. And I thank our great team who worked so hard to put this event together.” Irish golf pro Des Smyth (right) added:  “To gather us here for the 29th year is an amazing achievement. I want to thank Colm, Breeda and the whole Dubai Duty Free team. We have such fun at this event and the final day on Friday will be wonderful. May the best golfer win.”

‘Straight and True’ – the adage might not apply to many of the players’ golfing prowess but it’s a nicely apposite tagline for The Moodie Davitt Report’s sponsorship of the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup carts on Day 1
