THAILAND. Welcome to the latest edition of The Moodie Report PLUS – our popular feature series dedicated to the industry’s biggest stories and its leading innovators.

This edition truly fits both bills. In recent weeks The Moodie Report has gained unprecedented access to King Power’s senior management as the ambitious Thai company has unveiled the two big openings of Asian travel retail in 2006 – the King Power Downtown Complex in Bangkok and, last Thursday, the retailer’s master commercial concession at the long-awaited Suvarnabhumi Airport.

We were there in the tense and exhausting run-up to last Thursday’s opening and are delighted to bring you this special report so soon after the event. It makes fascinating reading and gives a unique, highly-personalised insight into the pressures that surround such an event.

FROM THE PUBLISHER: For a special Picture Gallery of the new airport produced by The Moodie Report on opening day click here.

The full story of the opening of both the airport stores and the King Power Downtown Complex (unveiled on 18 August) will be told in Mantra of the East, a special publication from The MoodieReport due to be published later this month at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes.

This fascinating work examines the rise of King Power over the past 17 years, profiles Chairman Vichai Raksriaksorn and takes an in-depth look at the retailer’s acclaimed new retail and food & beverage offers.

In an industry first, all advertising revenues are being donated to charity through the King Power Foundation which was set up in 2005 to help society’s most needy. King Power will then match the industry’s support with its own contribution. All funds (together with a copy of the publication) will be presented to His Majesty the King of Thailand for use in his own charitable fund.

FOOTNOTE: The Moodie Report PLUS is one of our most successful and popular products. As a result it is increasing to monthly frequency in 2007, again focusing on the big store openings and major industry issues but with some additional regular sections. Effectively it will become the travel retail industry’s first monthly online publication – and like all versions of The Moodie Report it will be free of charge to readers. The Moodie Report will then be available in daily (web), weekly (e-newsletter and pdf), monthly (PLUS) and quarterly (print edition) forms, with no subscription charge.
