INTERNATIONAL. The Moodie Report presents the latest in our popular new feature series called Never Hide, in which industry interviewees answer quick but revealing questions about their lives and interests inside and outside the industry.
This week we talk to Vincent Romet, COO of Lagardère Services subsidiary LS Travel Retail EMEA.
How long have you been in the travel retail industry?
14 years already. So exciting I have not noticed the time pass!
What’s your proudest career achievement to date?
I wouldn’t say it’s a “career achievement”, but definitely a performance I will remember forever: leading a fantastic team of 80 RELAY people, not experts in building but willing to help, to open overnight 8 stores in the Eiffel Tower, that were handed over to us completely empty, with no furniture, electricity and so on. And viva IKEA!
Who have been the greatest inspirations in your life and career?
My wife. She definitely sees things differently and this has always been very inspiring
What’s the biggest lesson you have learned in life to date?
You’re never better than when you have fun and are passionate about what you do.
What quality do you most admire in people?
Positive thinking.
What is your favourite quote or saying?
Fuzzy targets always end up as a very clear mess.
What’s been your best-ever travel or holiday experience?
The best holidays are for sure in Cap Corsica, the very northern part of the Isle of Beauty. But please, don’t publish this, no one knows about it”¦
One book, one music album for your desert island – what would they be?
Pretty tough to pick up only one when there are so many talents in the world… I suppose the desert island is Wi-fi connected, right? So I”˜ll take my iPad with me.
And one duty free item?
A very old bottle of rum. Definitely suitable for a desert island.
How do you assess your first few months at LS Travel Retail? What are your main objectives for the next year or so?
Lots of new projects in the pipeline and a great LS Travel Retail team building up around me to operate them in the near future.
If you could invite three iconic figures (they can be living or dead) to your ideal dinner party, who would they be?
The Beatles, but I guess it’s a [mathematically] wrong answer…
