The Nuance Group Denmark appoints new Managing Director with top department store background – 05/08/05

Nuance’s new-look offer at Copenhagen Airport symbolises the positive influence of Stephan Salvisberg’s “untiring efforts” in recent months.

DENMARK. The Nuance Group has announced the appointment of a new Managing Director for Copenhagen Airport, one of the retailer’s key locations.

Stig Nielsen, a 39-year old Dane, becomes Managing Director The Nuance Group Denmark from 12 October.

Nielsen has a strong retail background. He was formerly Chief Operating Officer with upscale Danish department store chain Magasin du Nord. In this capacity he held overall responsibility for the retail organisation, sales, buying, marketing and human resources. Earlier positions with the same company included Sales Director, Senior Vice President Buying and Marketing, and Store Director. Before joining Magasin du Nord he worked for the Danish Supermarkets Group.

Nuance said: “Stig is a retailer through and through and will bring his extensive retail knowledge as well as a thorough understanding of the Danish retail market to his new function. Stig furthermore sports excellent connections with the Danish retail industry and towards Copenhagen Airport.”

Nuance expressed its gratitude to Stephan Salvisberg, its Managing Director Switzerland and General Manager Zurich, for his “untiring efforts over the past months” in simultaneously looking after the Danish operation.

Salvisberg has been instrumental in the successful recent refurbishment of Nuance’s Copenhagen Tax-Free Shop. Nuance said: “Working in an extremely challenging environment, Stephan has helped bring our Danish operation up to new standards and done much to regain the trust of our airport partner.”

Once he hands over the operation to Stig Nielsen in October, he will devote himself full-time to his Swiss functions.

The Nuance Group CEO Roberto Graziani told The Moodie Report that this appointment reflects the company’s determination to put top retail knowhow in place around the world. He described it as a very good appointment in a key location.

EDITOR’S NOTE Stig Nielsen inherits a very different Danish operation and a very different relationship with Copenhagen Airport management than was the case before Stephan Salvisberg’s arrival. The latter has led a remarkable turnaround in relationships with the airport and an equally vivid transformation of the retail offer.

In a recent interview with The Moodie Report, Copenhagen Airport Shopping Centre Commercial Vice-President Henrik Busch singled out Salvisberg for praise – a far cry from the dark days of contract disputes and arbitration that have marred recent years. The impressive new-look main store, viewed by The Moodie Report today, will be a lasting – and, one suspects, successful – legacy of Salvisberg’s influence.
